Apocalypse-ready Merc truck

Mercedes-Benz and Hartmann and Huenerkopf have revealed the ultimate camper van.

We're not quite sure who Mercedes-Benz is aiming its new Zetros truck at. On the one hand, military buyers and survivalist nuts will love its six-wheel drive go-anywhere ability, but on the other we're not convinced men in camouflage will appreciate the marble-floored bathroom and eight-seat dinner table.

The only people we can think would be keen are itinerant dictators, who will value the onboard generator that allows the Zetros to be "fully independent of the power grid."

We'd still like one for ourselves, though, as this has to be the ultimate camper van. Two of the luxury Zetros trucks have been made for a pair of businessmen who wanted a mobile base while they hunt wolves using eagles to spot them in the Altai Mountains in Mongolia. We're not making this up.

Each truck has a 7.3-litre six-cylinder turbodiesel engine and a choice of two gearboxes, one with nine speeds and the other an automatic six-speeder. Together with the full-time six-wheel drive, the Zetros should be pretty unstoppable.

When you do pull in for a break from wolf hunting, the Zetros comes with a luxury bathroom to wash away the grime. To relax, there's a 46-inch flat-screen television, while the cabin has enough space for an eight-seat dining table to be served from the fully fitted kitchen. Let's just hope wolf isn't on the menu.

To round off the Hartmann and Huenerkopf converted Zetros specification, the table then converts into a king size bed.

As for price, Mercedes-Benz and the H&H are remaining silent.
