What's the news?

SsangYong has released teaser images of a C-Segment electric SUV concept, the e-SIV, which will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

e-SIV stands for Electronic Smart Interface Vehicle and the concept represents SsangYong's latest foray into electric vehicles as well as a look towards future driver autonomy and connectivity technology. This is the company's fifth electric car concept that we've seen. Previous models include KEV1 in 2010, KEV2 (2011), e-XIV (2012), and Tivoli EV-R shown at Geneva in 2015.

The e-SIV does seem to bear something of a resemblance to the Tivoli, especially in the rear flanks although it sports a somewhat more rakish profile and strips of LED lighting.

The car is powered by a 140kW (190hp) motor with fast charging of up to 80 per cent in 50 minutes, a top speed of 150km/h (93mp/h) and a range of up to 450km. In terms of the e-SIV's size, its dimensions place it in the C-Segment, above the SsangYong Tivoli and according to SsangYong, the concept is based on the design of its next generation C-Segment SUV, meaning that this could well be a preview of the next Korando or its replacement.

You can expect any C-Segment replacement from SsangYong to face very stiff competition going up against the likes of fellow Koreans, the Kia Sportage and Niro, the Hyundai ix35 as well as other class leaders like the Volkswagen Tiguan.

The unveiling of the e-SIV will take place in Geneva alongside the European launch of SsangYong's new Musso pickup.
