The high-speed connection has been developed by Audi in conjunction with Alcatel-Lucent. In the A8, Audi uses long-term evolution (LTE) systems, which may replace the current 3G mobile phone and broadband technology.
Audi's technical boss, Michael Dick, said: "We will use LTE technology to extend our advantage in automotive networking and further consolidate the Audi connect strategy."
With faster connection speeds while driving, the LTE system is claimed to offer more reliable internet access. This means Audi drivers could benefit from enhanced satellite navigation systems, download films while driving for passengers to watch and surf the internet on the move.
The A8 prototype is currently being tested by Audi and Alcatel-Lucent engineers.
