Hamann lost his long struggle with cancer at the weekend; it was announced by his eponymous racing and tuning company.
Before starting his own business, Richard Hamann raced for more than 20 years, notching up more than 700 races and 300 podium finishes. Of those, 103 were outright victories and Hamann was a three-time champion in the Super Touring Car Trophy at the wheel of a BMW M1. He also raced in Group C endurance events, the German DTM touring car series and Formula 3.
Hamann founded his own company in 1986 to prepare race cars and offer tuning for road cars. Since then, his company has worked on many supercars to offer significant power upgrades, as well as uprated suspension and aerodynamics.
The Hamann Motorsport company will continue despite the loss of its boss.
