Skoda's successful Superb spruced up

More equpment and zero per cent finance for Skoda Superb.

What's the news?

It's certainly not broke (1,745 sales last year and second place in the saloon-car sales charts), but Skoda is having a go at fixing the Superb anyway, with a mid-life round of trim updates, and the offer of zero per cent finance if you buy one before the end of February. Doubtless this is meant to keep interest alive in the Superb at a time when Skoda's range is being dominated by the arrival of the Karoq and Kodiaq SUVs, but there are certainly some worthwhile updates included.

Pleasing those users of the Samsung Galaxy and iPhone 8 and X, there's now wireless phone charging included as standard, plus the addition of a built-in SIM card that allows both a connection to the Skoda customer service system and emergency assistance calls. Additionally, the eCall system can automatically call for help if you've had a crash and can't get to your phone.

There's also the option of a massive new 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control, which is standard on top-spec Laurin & Klement models. Thanks to the SIM card, it can also get online infotainment services such as news, weather and access to Google Maps, and Skoda is throwing in one year's subscription to that service.

On the mechanical front, the old six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox is being replaced by a more up-to-date seven-speed unit, while the Sportline model now comes with a panoramic sunroof and 19-inch alloys, and a small price increase of €250.

Commenting on the updated Superb's arrival, Mark Mulvaney, PR, Events & Sponsorship Manager at Skoda Ireland, said: "The Superb is a car that truly lives up to its name. In a market of fierce competition, it continues to come out on top, offering the Irish customer unrivalled space, comfort and value for money. Despite the growth of SUVs in Ireland in recent times, Superb sales continue to grow. These latest improvements to the Superb combined with our 0 per cent PCP finance offers extended into February make this car difficult to beat again in 2018."
