Toyota Ireland hits sales milestone

Japanese firm sells its 500,000th car in Ireland.

Toyota has sold its 500,000th car in Ireland.  The car - a Yaris - was sold to Siobhan Murphy from Salthill in Galway in February.

The Yaris has proved to be something of a phenomenon, according to figures released by the Society of Irish Motoring Industry (SIMI), being the most popular car in Ireland's scrappage scheme last month.

This news may come as little surprise to Toyota who claims that 90 percent of Toyota owners will replace their old car with another Toyota - despite the firm facing a growing list of recalls.

Managing director for Toyota Ireland, David Shannon, said:  "With a great start to 2011 and a number 1 ranking in sales and scrappage, we are laying the very early ground works for the next 500,000 sales."
