Nissan gives further glimpse of Leaf MkII

Promises of more tech, improved cabin comfort and a smoother ride for the Nissan Leaf EV.

What's the news?

We already know that it's going to be aerodynamic but here's more rampant teasing of the second-generation Leaf electric vehicle (EV) from Nissan.

This solitary image shows the rear badging and a light cluster, with the distinctive shape of the latter seeming to indicate that the new version of the EV won't be a smooth, pebble-like conveyance as with the first-generation car, but will be edgier and funkier, in a manner not dissimilar to the fifth-generation 'K14' Nissan Micra.

Nissan confirms a few details about the car in this latest glimpse of the world's best-selling EV, while also bandying around a lot of subjective flim-flam of how good it will be to drive. Indeed, the Japanese company says the 'redesigned next-generation Leaf will amaze your senses and raise the bar for the electric vehicle market'. Quite a claim and one sure to have senior management at BMW raising their eyebrows, considering the existence of the i3.

The carmaker further says that its 'icon of Nissan Intelligent Mobility offers a quiet and refreshing experience while driving', while talk of enhanced vision and better sense of what is around the car suggests the newcomer will be packed with Nissan's full array of driver-assist technologies.

Perhaps the best news here is that the company also talks of 'premium interiors' that are personalisable and which offer greater comfort; a promising development, as the old car's cabin was something of a let-down, given how advanced the Leaf was overall.

Anything else?

Nissan will stop toying with us and fully unveil the Leaf MkII on September 6, in its Japanese homeland, and the grand reveal will be streamed live online.
