Mondello Park hosts first Historic Racing Festival

Classic machinery on two wheels and four to race at Mondello Park in August.

What's the news?

County Kildare's Mondello Park is to hold its first ever Historic Racing Festival, due to take place on Sunday, August 27th.

All of the Historic Irish Car and Motorcycle Racing classes will be on show, while there will even be some visiting racers from across the water in the UK. Expect to see both championships of the Historic Racing Car Association (HRCA) - the HRCA Historic Racing Cars Class and the Pre-'55 Class - as well as the more modern retro racers of the Micksgarage.com Future Classics category.

On two wheels, the Irish Classic Bike Racing Championship will be supported by '80s and '90s machines competing in the Classic Superbike Championship.

Roddy Greene, the general manager of Mondello, said: "We're looking forward to August 27th and particularly the action on track. We're returning to our roots for this event in more than one way, harking back to the glory days of motorsport in Ireland.

"The Historic Racing Festival is one for motorsport enthusiasts as it's a straight-up racing festival, which is what Mondello Park was built for. We are aiming to build this event into something spectacular over the coming years, and are expecting a big crowd of car and motorcycle enthusiasts of all ages to come along and join in the fun."

Ken McAvoy, speaking on behalf of the HRCA, added of the festival: "The HRCA would like to congratulate Mondello Park on initiating this first Historic Racing Festival at the circuit. The HRCA has been interested in seeing such a festival develop in Ireland for many years, and hopes that 2017 will be the start of something that will grow to become an international attraction. The HRCA will fully support the August 27th event with grids of cars from our pre-1976 and pre-1955 race series."

Anything else?

Aiming to capitalise on the success of classic racing events around the world, in particular the ever-popular Goodwood Festival of Speed, further details of the Historic Racing Festival will be made available over the coming weeks on the Mondello Park website.
