Renault previews Espace replacement

The R-Space concept shows how Renault would like to replace its Espace MPV.

What is it?

A stylish and economic people carrier concept. It's the third show car from Laurens van den Acker for Renault, and it's powered by the 'Energy TCe Concept' engine.

This is a turbocharged three-cylinder, 110hp, 900cc petrol engine mated to an Efficient Dual Clutch transmission (EDC). Figures include 160Nm of torque and 95g/km CO2 emissions with fuel consumption of 3.7 litres/ 100km.

The design is a hint at Renault's future cars, with a mono-space architecture, a dynamic, flowing silhouette and a versatile interior space.

The R-Space trains the driver in eco-driving with what Renault call the "DRIVIGECO2 Conseil" scoring system with additional traffic monitoring. The two activities get linked when the driver achieves economical points - a videogame in the back adds extra points for the players.

Why's it here?

To showcase the possibility of an MPV in the footsteps of the Renault Espace.

Show stopper or floor filler?

The Renault R-Space is a show stopper if you're a multiple parent, otherwise not a breakthrough concept in detail. A great combination of refined ideas when it comes to getting from A to B for more than three people though. And hey, we all love a concept.
