Skoda Vision E interior details
Skoda Vision E electric concept for the Shanghai Motor Show features rotating seats and no B-pillar.

What's the news?

Skoda has given us a sneak peek at the interior of its Vision E electric concept car that will be unveiled at the Auto Shanghai 2017 show - and has also confirmed it will lack for a B-pillar, in much the same way as the Ford B-Max.

Unlike the Ford, though, with its sliding rear portals, the Vision E has counter-opening doors, which allow access to an interior featuring four rotating seats and no centre tunnel to maximise passenger space.

The Vision E previews a wave of electrified models coming from the Czech manufacturer between now and 2025, with Skoda confirming that not only will it be bringing in plug-in hybrids, but five fully electric machines in the next eight years.

Skoda says the Vision E's cabin is made of large glass surfaces, lending a bright and transparent air to the interior. Bold, horizontal lines define the fascia and the elevated seats can swivel by up to 20 degrees, swinging outboard when the doors are opened to aid ingress and egress; they return to their original position once the doors are closed.

There are also multiple screens, with one in the instrument cluster, one in the centre console and then one each for the three passengers, on which they can personalise their entertainment and comfort.

Both door pockets feature inductive 'phone box' charging for smartphones, there's ten-colour ambient lighting and of course the Vision E has a big boot - it is a Skoda, after all.

Anything else?

"With the Vision E, we are giving an outlook on Skoda's future models with electric drive," said Skoda's CEO Bernhard Maier. "In addition to plug-in hybrid vehicles, we will also be launching five purely electric cars on the market in various segments before 2025. This will enable us to offer every fourth car with electric drive."
