Approved applicants for Ford’s new supercar will receive a special personalisation aid.

What's the news?

It's safe to say that the new Ford GT is one of the most hotly anticipated supercars in recent memory, and with only 500 cars due to be built, people are climbing over each other for the chance to own one. Over 7,000 applications to buy were received, and the web is awash with discussions of who has (or hasn't) made it onto the list.

Those lucky enough to be approved are set to receive an order kit quite unlike any other seen to date. Following on from the existing online configurator, customers will be sent a carbon fibre box (secured with a latch identical to one used on the Le Mans racers) containing a myriad of interior and exterior samples, some of which are hewn from materials that will be used in the real-life version. These consist of paint configurations (with removable stripes), miniature wheels which feature inset brake calipers and interior samples in leather and Alcantara. There's even a replica VIN plate which will mimic the number of the real car.

There's still no word on how much the cars will cost or when customers will receive delivery, but Ford are certainly maximising the exposure aspect in the meantime. Henry Ford III commented: "The Ford GT ordering kit is a critical piece in the purchase process. This high-quality kit is a hands-on tool for Ford GT customers to enhance their ordering experience. Authentic colours, finishes and materials will provide an intimate, tactile way to discern the multitude of choices to configure their ideal supercar."
