During the break of the National Football League (NFL) final between the Green Bay Peckers and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Volkswagen aired a short commercial on its upcoming new retro-car, the next Beetle.
The animated commercial features a black beetle - with go-faster stripes - getting involved in various racing and chasing situations with other bugs. The sequence is said to reflect classic movie and TV show car chase scenes. The protagonist animal was characterised by a contour that resembles VW's older and later incarnation 'beetle cars'. The featured silhouette is a sleeker design to the previous cars' and will apparently be applied to the next generation Beetle. This is further confirmed by the transformation of the bug to simple contour lines at the end of the TV commercial.
This is not the first time, however, that this silhouette has been showcased. In November 2010, the same contours appeared in the Oprah Winfrey Show.
The official launch of the new VW Beetle is yet to be announced.
