McLaren begins production of MP4-12C

New McLaren supercar now in production.

McLaren celebrated its first 'milestone' of 2011 as the first MP4-12C takes shape with plans to build 1,000 cars this year.

Production of 'Chassis 01' is taking place at the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) in Woking in England. However, the majority of production will take place at the new McLaren Production Centre. The €47 million facility is being built next to MTC and is due for completion in May.

McLaren has also produced a new short film covering the key events of the 12C's development in 2010. The video shows the car in action at Goodwood circuit and the Festival of Speed as well as in the snow at Dunsfold Aerodrome. Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button both appear to enjoy driving the prototypes. The film can be seen at www.youtube.com/mclarenautomotivetv.

Commenting on the journey to production McLaren Automotive's Managing Director, Antony Sheriff, said the company is "as committed to delivering a high quality sports cars and a fantastic ownership experience as a our Formula 1 team is to winning races."
