What's the news?
Toyota Ireland has made a donation of €12,000 to Teen-Line Ireland, a charity that offers a phone counselling service to teenagers who feel depressed, isolated, scared or worried. It's both a confidential support service and simply an electronic shoulder to cry on for those that need it. The charity was established by Maureen Bolger, whose son, Darren, tragically took his own life in 2003. Maureen says that if Darren had had someone to talk to, his actions might have been changed.
The donation from Toyota Ireland will help Teen-Line fund general operational activity the organisation undertakes in schools nationally as well as the vital recruitment and training of volunteers to carry out its services. Due to the growing volume of calls it receives, over 20,000 annually, Teen-Line is now seeking to increase the number of volunteers who staff its helpline.
Steve Tormey, Chief Executive Toyota Ireland, said: "Toyota Ireland are delighted to support Teen-Line Ireland which provides an important, impartial support service for teenagers. The crucial work that the team at Teen-Line Ireland do is not only very challenging, but it is also voluntary. We are proud to contribute towards the recruitment and specialised training of volunteers who can make a massive impact on the lives of young people in Ireland."
Rugby superstar and Toyota Ireland brand ambassador Paul O'Connell handed over the cheque to Teen-Line volunteers.
