Mazda Minagi to take on Nissan Qashqai

Mazda's next generation crossover will be previewed at the Geneva Motor Show.

Mazda's star at the Geneva Motor Show in March will be the Minagi Concept, which, despite the very Japanese name, previews a new European market crossover.

The Nissan Qashqai competitor showcases Mazda's new design theme, KODO (Soul of Motion), on a production viable model. KODO replaces the Nagare design language used to style the company's recent models.

Quite what the difference is we're not sure, because the Minagi is as sleek and stylish as all Mazda concepts of late. Apparently it 'evokes a powerful and emotive sense of pent-up energy and vitality.'

The Minagi also features Mazda's all-encompassing SKYACTIV technologies, which encompasses engine, drivetrain and chassis.

All we know about SKYACTIV is that it 'builds harmony between driving pleasure and outstanding environmental and safety performance.'

The Minagi is no doubt the precursor to a production crossover set to replace the CX-7, though Mazda is giving away nothing.

Maybe we'll find out more at the car's debut in Geneva, 3 March.
