Marking the arrival of a GT3 version, BMW announces the M6 Competition Edition.

To celebrate the official launch of the M6 GT3 racer, BMW is offering buyers of the regular road-going M6 Coupé the option to make their car look a little like it by way of the new Competition Edition. It's only available in conjunction with the Competition Package and other choice optional extras.

Exterior

Though the M6 Competition Edition can be specified in luminous Austin Yellow metallic, to get the full GT3 effect buyers should go for Alpine White, as it mimics the race car with stripes in the trademark BMW M colours of two blues and a red. Matt-black 20-inch alloys are required, while the kidney grille, door handles and side gills are all finished in black chrome. Carbon fibre is used for the door mirror caps, boot spoiler and rear diffuser, while 'M6 Competition' is incorporated subtly into the side gills and not so subtly onto the C-pillars.

Interior

The M6's four-seat cabin is augmented by black Merino leather upholstery from BMW Individual with contrasting stitching (white or yellow depending on the exterior hue). There's more of that 'M6 Competition' lettering too plus lashings of carbon fibre and even Alcantara for the steering wheel. Upgrades to the seats, head-up display and sound system are also included.

Mechanicals

The Competition Edition brings no new mechanical upgrades as such, but it must be paired with the Competition Package, which increases output of the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine to 600hp and 700Nm of torque, allowing an optional top speed of 305km/h. Not that you care, but it emits 231g/km and uses 9.9 litres/100km of unleaded on the combined cycle.

Anything else?

Fancy something similar, but with even more extreme aesthetics? Then you should check out the equally new BMW M6 GT3 customer racer. Yours for a mere €379,000.
