Irish motorists head north for Christmas

AA survey shows cost-conscious consumers head north to make their euro go further on Christmas shopping.

High fuel prices are not stopping motorists in Ireland from travelling across the border to do their Christmas shopping.  A survey by AA Motor Insurance found one in five people planning to head north to save money.

A further six percent plan to do some or all of their Christmas shopping in another part of the UK.  Other respondents admitted to keeping an eye on exchange rates before deciding where to buy their seasonal items.  However, 63 percent of people said they would shop locally.

Shoppers were also asked to suggest gifts for the 'petrol heads' in their lives.  A full car valet was top of the list followed by an AA Car Service and a Car reversing set (parking sensors and rear-view camera).  Other items on the list included a nodding Rudolf and furry dice!
