Volvo preparing to recall new XC90 models

Global recall expected to be announced for all seven-seat models.

Customers awaiting delivery of their new Volvo XC90 may have to wait longer due to a soon-to-be-announced recall on seven-seat models.

CompleteCar.ie has learned that Volvo dealers have been instructed not to deliver any new XC90s to customers due to an issue with an interior trim panel that is believed may cause incorrect deployment of the D-pillar curtain airbag. This could potentially lead to passengers in the third row having less protection from the curtain airbag.

It is important to note that the fault lies with a trim panel and not the airbag itself, nor is this related to the much publicised series of Takata airbag recalls that have affected other brands. Although there is no danger in driving the car, Volvo is not taking any chances and is not allowing dealers to deliver any new XC90 cars to customers. It is also important to note that to date there has been no incidents or accidents related to this issue.

Anything else?

It is not yet known exactly how many cars are affected nor is there a clear timeline on when Volvo will have a fix for this issue. Volvo will contact customers that have already taken delivery of their car in due course while dealers will continue to sell and take orders for the new model
