Here's something that will annoy early adopters of the Land Rover Discovery Sport, albeit it was obviously going to happen: the new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engines have been adopted into the range.
This four-cylinder aluminium diesel will come in two power trims for the Discovery Sport, at either 150hp/380Nm or 180hp/430Nm, the higher of which gets the option of a nine-speed automatic alongside the standard six-speed manual - all Ingenium models will be badged TD4, while the 150hp model also sees the five-seat Disco Sport offered for the first time.
So, combined economy and CO2 emissions run thus: the 150hp TD4 delivers 4.9 litres/100km (57.7mpg) and 129g/km; while the 180hp TD4, in either manual or auto guise, can return 5.3 litres/100km (53.3mpg) and 139g/km.
Indeed, the 150 is so clean that it will get Land Rover's new 'E-Capability' badging, reserved for the 'greenest' of its products, which means it has 18-inch low-rolling resistance tyres, its own specific gearing and engine calibration, and a blue 'Sport' label outside to identify it as a planet-saver.
Ingenium-engined Land Rover Discovery Sports are available to order now, with first deliveries expected later this year.
