Aston Martin Lagonda goes 'global'

Aston's Lagonda Taraf will be available in left- and right-hand drive.

Aston Martin has confirmed what we already suspected - its limited edition Lagonda Taraf super saloon will be made available to buyers outside the Middle East. Aston had intended to only offer it in that region (and indeed 'Taraf' is an Arabic word for 'ultimate luxury'), but demand from elsewhere was too strong to ignore. However, while the Taraf can be ordered in left- and right-hand drive, no more than 200 examples will be produced in total.

Exterior

By way of reminder, the Taraf's exterior style is unashamedly inspired by the William Towns-designed Lagonda of 1976, but its structure is bang up to date. Underneath the mostly carbon fibre body sits Aston Martin's 'VH' aluminium chassis architecture.

Interior

The new Lagonda's cabin mixes handcrafted detailing with luxurious materials and plenty of space for four - without forgetting Aston Martin's sporty side. Not that the colour or finish of the images here mean anything, as each and every buyer of the Taraf is expected to customise the car to their preferences via the 'Q by Aston Martin' bespoke service.

Mechanicals

Aston Martin hasn't officially announced all of the technical specifications of the Taraf, but we do know that it's powered by a version of the company's charismatic and naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12 engine. In the Vanquish that produces up to 576hp and 610Nm. It's expected that the Lagonda will retain the rear-wheel drive layout and put power through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Anything else?

A few choice quotes from Aston's CEO, Dr Andy Palmer:

"Opening up the Lagonda Taraf to an increased number of customers around the world was a high priority for me as soon as I joined Aston Martin late last year. I wanted to be able to offer this exceptional saloon to the potential owners from around the globe who have been enquiring about it, and I'm very happy that we have been able to expand the Lagonda proposition."

"As a result of today's announcement we anticipate very quick expressions of interest from customers around the world, many of whom will want to add Lagonda to their luxury and sports car collections."
