Earlier last month we reported the loss of braking experienced during a high speed emergency braking test conducted by Autocar magazine, which resulted in Suzuki halting all sales of new Celerio models. The precautionary measure affected approximately 40 cars in Ireland, where sales had begun ahead of the UK.
The resulting investigation found that the fault surrounded a built-in safety feature that malfunctioned. In the event of collision, the pedals are designed to retract, thus reducing the risk of further injury to the driver. However, although this system worked when initially tested during the car's development, when the Celerio was manufactured in right-hand drive, a fault occurred whereby the system was activating prematurely.

Suzuki has since developed a modified part that can be retrofitted to the cars currently affected and is shipping this to dealers now. The update takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and some cars have already begun to be returned to customers who had been supplied with courtesy vehicles in the interim.
