Jensen rises from the dead, again
Classic brand back with a new GT and plans for a new Interceptor.

Jensen, one of the classic names of motoring, is making one of its oft-attempted comebacks. The Jensen name was last seen on a convertible sports car, called the S-V8, in 2001, but has been moribund since, apart from some interesting resto-mod Interceptors featuring modern Corvette engines.

The Jensen Group is essentially a new company, formed by an agreement between the owners of the original Jensen name and rights and Jensen International Automotive, which has been building the updated classic Interceptor for some time now. Headed up by former Aston Martin executive Tim Hearley, Jensen is, on the eve of its 80th birthday, on the comeback trail with a new car called the Jensen GT.

These images show the styling buck for a trim, very retro-looking coupé that really amps up the classic Jensen styling cues. There is no word on what chassis is underneath yet, but the good money is on the engine being the 6.2-litre Chevrolet V8 as used in the updated Interceptor R.

Jensen says that the car will be built strictly to order and will be highly bespoke, costing as much as €475,000. Not surprisingly, given the affection for the model, there are also plans for a new Interceptor, possibly for a 2016 launch. "This new model, classed as Interceptor 2, will take design cues from the classic Interceptor and will advance the concept of the original grand tourer, to provide a thoroughly modern and exciting vehicle" said Jensen in a statement.

"This represents the next chapter of Jensen and, as we look to the future, we want Jensen enthusiasts to help us celebrate as we unveil a completely new car and outline our plans for the future," said Mr Hearley.
