Galway is Ireland's most congested city

Galway's traffic worse than Dublin, Limerick and Cork.

Galway is Ireland's most congested city according to data compiled by satellite navigation and data firm TomTom.

Galway topped the list with over 37.1 percent of roads gridlocked. Dublin and Limerick came second and third with 28.6 percent and 28.3 percent. Cork, Waterford and Drogheda came in fourth, fifth and sixth in the top ten traffic hotspots. This was followed by Navan, Castlebar, Killarney, Kildare, Donegal and Ennis.

Rankings are based on how fast cars travelled on a city or town's road network and was measured by the anonymous speed data TomTom collects from drivers who use their devices.

This news came at the announcement of new TomTom LIVE services, which provide dynamic route guidance information allowing users access to live traffic information, delays, accidents and speed camera locations.

The RSA is set to announce the locations of the new privatised speed camera enforcement zones on Sunday and these will be included in the new TomTom LIVE information.
