LF-SA concept might be a Lexus MINI

Small car could make it into Lexus dealers as soon as next year.

Is Lexus working on a rival to the MINI and the Audi A1? It certainly looks that way and this, the LF-SA concept, should give us our first clues as to what that car will be like. Lexus has confirmed nothing officially yet, but has merely said: "the LF-SA has been conceived as a luxurious, driver-focused vehicle, designed to address a future world that is more influenced by technology and virtual experiences. The new concept reflects Lexus's passion for new design trends and explored unexpected territories for the brand."

Not a lot to go on there, but Lexus is known to be keen to add a model smaller than the CT 200h to its line-up and this is very likely a concept version of that car. Expect it to share the same basic mechanical package as the Toyota Yaris Hybrid - a worrying move, as the Yaris Hybrid is a long way from being the most fun car to drive and the engineers at Lexus will have to try to match the engaging driving experience of the MINI if they are to compete.

We'll get more details at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
