Renault has finally revealed its long-awaited crossover, which will go up against the all-conquering Nissan Qashqai later this year. Of course this car, the Kadjar, has a certain advantage over its rival by being based on the Qashqai, thanks to Renault's 15-year-old merger with Nissan.
So, the Kadjar might look a lot like a Captur (Renault's compact crossover that has been a big success for the brand) but underneath it shares a great deal with the hugely successful Nissan.
That should also include the engine range, although Renault is officially staying tight-lipped on this for now. The key engine will likely be the 1.5 dCi diesel with 110hp and a 99g/km CO2 rating. Four-wheel drive will be available as an option as will full LED headlamps. LED daytime driving lights are standard.
Renault is making great play of the practically of the Kadjar, pointing out that it has 190mm of ground clearance for dealing with badly made roads and a 472-litre boot with a moving floor. Renault also plans on the Kadjar being seen as the stylish option too, with 19-inch alloy wheels available as an option.
Sales start later this year and it's expected that the Kadjar should pretty swiftly surpass the Mégane and Clio as the best-selling Renault model, as well as becoming the first Renault-badged vehicle to be built in China.
