Big price reductions for Volvo S40 and V50

Volvo S40 and V50 DRIVe models now come with lower emissions bracket and there is a new, Classic trim grade.

Volvo has announced Classic versions of the S40 and V50 priced from €25,495 and €27,395 respectively (excluding delivery and related charges).  The DRIVe models have also been revised with start-stop bringing CO2 emissions below 100g/km.

The DRIVe models come with a 1.6-litre diesel engine, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.  It gives fuel consumption of 3.8 litres/100km (68.9mpg) with CO2 emissions of 99g/km.

Equipment on the ES Classic includes climate control, alloy wheels and an on-board computer.  There are also SE Lux and R Design versions.  The former comes with 17-inch wheels and leather seats, while the latter features a body kit and sports interior.

A limited number of S40 and V50 ES Classic models are available from dealers with an additional €500 off the list price.  Volvo has also promised to hold the prices regardless of whether the scrappage scheme continues into 2011.

It is hoped that a new tax band for cars emitting less than 100g/km will be introduced in the forthcoming budget.
