Bentley's SUV has a name: Bentayga

'Pinnacle SUV' is Bentelys first dalliance in the SUV market.

Bentley's first foray into the lucrative luxury-SUV world will be called the Bentayga. The... um... unusual name comes from the Roque Bentayga - the Pillars of the Sky according to the tourist board of Gran Canaria where the rugged peak of the popular climbing trail is located. Yes, Bentley - 'renowned purists of British luxury' - is aiming its super-SUV at the lifestyle sector.

"Bentayga is a name that reflects what we know our SUV will do better than any other car in the world - combine the best automotive luxury with outstanding performance to take the Bentley experience to new environments," said Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors at the announcement of the new vehicle's name in Detroit today (January 12, 2015).

Anything else?

The Bentayga is scheduled to be revealed in full at either the Geneva Motor Show in March or Frankfurt in September before going on sale in 2016. The new car, which Bentley describes as a 'sector-defining SUV... with an impressive combination of on and off road performance,' will be based on the same architecture as the Audi Q7.
