Honda gets an in-car robot. Well, an Android...

Google-based operation system for Honda's new in-car infotainment.

Honda has revealed its new Honda Connect infotainment system. Based around a seven-inch display screen, it uses Google's Android operating system as a base and allows you to control it with smartphone-style swipes, taps and pinches. It also has MirrorLink so that whatever is displayed on your phone can also be displayed on the car's screen.

Aside from the usual Bluetooth connectivity for phone and music, there's also the Honda App Store, which allows you to download vehicle-specific apps: Wi-Fi tethering to allow you to browse the internet from inside the car (as long as it's stopped, of course...) and an optional Garmin-based satnav app that can even figure out the most economical route to follow.

There's also an app built into the system called Aha, which uses your phone's connection to allow you to browse music and online radio stations as you go, and can even tap into social media networks.

Anything else?
Following its world debut at the Paris Motor Show, Honda Connect goes on sale in selected models next year.
