Suzuki's new Vitara rolls into Paris

The Vitara is back but it is entering a crowded market.

What are we looking at?
It really could be anything, so generic is the Suzuki Vitara's style. Once a bit of a leader in the segment the Vitara isn't likely to make a huge sales impact against its compact crossover and SUV rivals. There's a bit of visual interest via two-tone paint options, giving the roof and pillars contrast to the rest of the bodywork, but you really could pop any badge on the front of this as it's so indistinct.

What's the best thing about it?
It's new, and that'll be enough to get people into it. So too will decent pricing and generous specification. It's certain to be reliable too. Most will be front-wheel drive 1.6-litre diesels, though there's a 1.6-litre petrol choice, and the option of AllGrip four-wheel drive too. Inside it's all neat and well built, though like the outside it's a bit uninspired, really.

Show stopper or floor filler?
Filler for sure. Not that it's not worthy; we're sure it'll be perfectly competent and rounded, but it's difficult to get excited about. If it's priced and equipped right it'll sell in decent numbers, but don't expect it to become as common a sight as the original once was. It arrives in Ireland in Spring 2015.
