First glimpse of Lagonda interior

Aston Martin releases more images of the Lagonda 'super saloon'.

The last time we saw the Aston Martin Lagonda it was undergoing rigorous hot weather testing in Oman, but the super-luxury saloon now appears to have made it back to Gaydon in the UK and, for the first time, we get a look at its interior.

In case you have forgotten, the Lagonda will be an uber-exclusive car - to be sold only to discerning Middle East customers whom Aston Martin will hand pick before inviting them to buy the car. And you thought the vetting procedure for a LaFerrari was picky.

At this stage little is actually known about the car beyond it will be built on Aston's existing VH platform and that the low slung body work will be hand-made, in part, from carbon fibre. We don't even know the price yet though we suspect that it will under the 'if you have to ask you can't afford it' banner.

While Aston Martin has recently signed an engine deal with Mercedes-Benz it seems unlikely that the VH architecture will be modified to accept an engine from Stuttgart, which would suggest the Lagonda will use the 6.0-litre V12 engine from the Rapide S. Yes Aston does have a V8 in its back catalogue but if you are building a super-luxury car then surely only a V12 will do?

The new images of the car are our first opportunity to see the new Lagonda alongside the 1976 car that also bore the name. The similarities between the new saloon and the William Towns design are obvious with the long slender body, low-slung front, and narrow headlights all lifted from the Lagonda of the 1970s.

Interior
As for that interior we are seeing for the first time: seating is for four with each perch covered in deeply quilted leather. The traditional Aston 'waterfall' centre console is present and correct and replicated (in miniature format) for the rear occupants. Wood and brushed aluminium feature throughout the classy looking cabin.

Anything else?
The Lagonda is the latest of Aston Martin's specialised projects that thus far have spawned the One-77, V12 Zagato and CC100 Speedster. The latter was originally designed as a concept, but Aston decided to build two production models for well-heeled Aston customers.
