Mitsubishi teases Outlander PHEV Concept-S

Plug-in hybrid concept teased ahead of Paris reveal.

Mitsubishi has released a pair of teaser sketches for the Outlander PHEV-based Concept-S ahead of its debut at next month's Paris Motor Show.

According to the official bumf the Concept-S previews a special package for the standard Outlander plug-in hybrid that features a "refined interior and exterior design."

Could the concept signify an early facelift for the PHEV to differentiate it from the regular Outlander, or is the Concept-S set to be a distinct PHEV model? Mitsubishi does not say exactly, but it does describe the concept's theme as "Sporty and Sophisticated" so read into that what you will.

Despite the looks the Concept-S's powertrain is expected to remain the same as that of the PHEV, which means a 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to a pair of electric motors for full-time four-wheel drive and 204hp or, more pertinently, 1.9 litres/100km fuel consumption and emissions of 44g/km.

Anything else?
Whatever it ends up being the Concept-S follows in the footsteps of the Outlander PHEV, which was itself unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2012.
