ABT extracts 400hp from the Golf R

Slightly less powerful version of fast Golf also offered by ABT.

The seventh generation Volkswagen Golf is a pretty established product, and its top-spec version, the Golf R, is no different. But ABT, a well-known German tuner of all Volkswagen Group products, has decided to turn the Golf R into a borderline mental hatchback with up to 400hp and 480Nm of torque on tap.

The bump in power and torque figures comes via an updated ABT control unit and a new catalytic convertor. There's also a height adjustable suspension setup, a new set of ABT Sportsline wheels (available in 18-, 19- or 20-inch sizes) and an ABT exhaust system for the car. An aero kit (amounting to side skirts and mirror covers) and ABT branded additions like the radiator grille, door mats etc. have found their way onto the car as well.

Now since these kits are available for existing Golf Rs, a lot of existing goodness stays intact like the quad tailpipes, the familiar design of the Golf and the Haldex four-wheel drive system. And with the added visual kit, finding one in the parking lot won't be a problem.

Anything else?

Buyers can also opt for a slightly less powerful mod for the Golf R from ABT. It makes 370hp and 460Nm of torque. Prices for the engine modifications alone start at €2,349 (before local taxes), a figure that goes up as you add the aero and suspension kits.
