Lamborghini gave punters a nice little surprise at the Pebble Beach Autoweek by revealing its latest motorsport creation, the Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo. This little beauty will be competing in all three (Europe, Asia and North America) of the brand's one-make 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series.
Exterior
"The Huracán Super Trofeo is an all-new car built from scratch with a clear racing concept," said Maurizio Reggiani, board member and director of research and development for Lamborghini. "We believe the car will be as fun for fans to watch as it will be rewarding for our racers to drive."
Bold words from Mr Reggiani, but it certainly looks the part. The Huracán Super Trofeo was developed with Dallara Engineering, with direct involvement by that company's founder, Giampaolo Dallara - who worked as a Lamborghini engineer in 1963 and was part of the development team for no less a car than the Miura. The LP 620-2 has full aerodynamics, with a ten-position adjustable rear wing, front and rear diffusers and adjustable front air intakes too.
Mechanicals
The Huracán Super Trofeo uses the direct-injected V10 engine from the road car, but here making 10hp more at 620hp all in. It sends drive to the rear wheels (a move designed to speed up the car's integration into GT racing) and its carbon fibre/aluminium chassis ensures it weighs just 1,270kg and has a power-to-weight ratio of 488hp/tonne. The Super Trofeo will run on Pirelli tyres designed specifically for this application.
Anything else?
Also at Pebble Beach, Lamborghini presented its Aventador LP 700-4 by Ad Personam. The car was designed to highlight Lambo's 'made-to-order' programme and had a bespoke interior created from semi-aniline leather, Alcantara, a Lamborghini-patented carbon fibre material called 'Forged Composite' and custom stitching.
