Golf Estate to arrive in October

Volkswagen expecting third member of Golf family.

Volkswagen Ireland has announced that its Golf range is set to expand with the Golf Estate due to arrive in October. This will be the first Golf estate to be offered in Ireland since the Mk4 died off. Originally the Mk7 version was not destined for these shores, but due to the increasing popularity of estate cars in Ireland the decision has been made to bring it in.

"We are delighted to see a return to Ireland of the Golf Estate," said Paul Burke Operations Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars. "More buyers are looking for a compact car with added versatility and practicality and the Golf Estate offers just that. The Golf is Ireland's best-selling car and this offers buyers even greater choice."

The estate will join the Golf hatch and recently launched Golf SV and will offer a 605-litre cargo capacity, which can expand out to 1,620 litres with the seats folded flat. The engine line up is expected to be similar to that of the hatchback (there has even been speculation of a red-hot R version) with the 1.6-litre diesel expected to account for the majority of sales.

Anything else?
Full pricing and specification will be announced closer to launch but it is expected the Golf Estate will have a sub-€23,000 starting price.
