Aston confirms Lagonda revival

Ultra-luxurious Aston Martin super saloon confirmed for 2015.

Aston Martin has finally confirmed it is to revive the Lagonda nameplate - on a new, bespoke luxury super saloon.

Built in strictly limited numbers, the new Lagonda will be hand-built by Aston's finest craftsmen and women, in a dedicated building that was previously used to put together the Aston One-77 hypercar.

Indeed, alongside the One-77, the Lagonda fits in with other highly specialised projects that have emerged from Aston recently, such as the V12 Zagato and the CC100 Speedster - a car originally designed to be just a concept, yet such was the demand that two customer vehicles were commissioned.

The Lagonda will be based on the existing VH chassis architecture and is said to draw its styling inspiration from the striking, wedge-shaped 1976 version penned by William Towns. Details are thin on the ground at this stage, but carbon fibre will be used in the Lagonda's body panels.

Aston Martin's design director Marek Reichman said: "The new model, like its exclusive siblings the One-77 and V12 Zagato, has been created as a piece of exceptional automotive art. It has been designed and developed entirely in keeping with the spirit and ethos of previous Lagonda super saloons - notably the William Towns Lagonda - and as a tribute to this car it proudly bears the Lagonda nameplate."

Anything else?
Sounds good, doesn't it? Sadly, you need to be a sheikh to own one - as the Lagonda will be offered exclusively in the Middle East, as a result of 'specific market demand'. The new super saloon will be offered for sale by invitation only and, while precise pricing details haven't been revealed, the asking price will be 'commensurate with the car's exclusivity, quality and luxurious nature'. Which is carmaker-shorthand for 'a LOT of money'.
