Special A7 Sportback marks TDI anniversary

Audi celebrates 25 years of diesel tech with a 326hp biturbo V6.

Audi's A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI 'competition' is a present to itself to mark the 25th anniversary of its TDI technology.

Exterior
The A7 competition wears an S line body kit and black gloss package - notably on the door mirror housings and the tailpipe trims - while 'V6 T' badges are to be seen on the wings. Four colours are on offer for the competition model, which are Daytona Grey, Nardo Grey, Misano Red and Sepang Blue.

Interior
To complement the black exterior detailing, the interior is largely black too and has sports seats upholstered in Valcona leather, which you can have in either black or Lunar silver (if you need a break from the darkness), with S line embossing. The stitching can be in a contrasting colour too, with Misano Red or Agate Grey the choices, while door inlays are aluminium and Beaufort wood in black. There are 'quattro' logos slotted into the door sill trims and paddle shifts for the eight-speed auto.

Mechanicals
The all-wheel drive Sportback 3.0 TDI competition has the twin-turbo V6 engine, with minor tweaks to the camshafts and turbos adding 7hp to the previous 319hp mix. Audi says an additional 20hp is available on overboost when you floor the accelerator, which obviously helps play a part in the car's 5.1-second 0-100km/h time. That and the 650Nm peak torque the 3.0-litre engine produces.

Audi quotes 46.3mpg (6.1 litres/100km) and CO2 of 162g/km, with EU6 emissions ratings assured. As it comes in S line specification, the suspension is 20mm lower than on a normal biturbo TDI and the five-spoke 'W' design 20-inch alloys are finished in black with 265/35 tyres. The brakes are 17-inches in diameter and are gripped by red callipers.

Anything else?
The A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI competition comes with all the features of the recently revised A7 range, such as LED headlights and dynamic indicator displays. Options include Matrix LED headlights, MMI Navigation plus and driver assistance systems, such as night vision assist. Orders for the competition start in August on the continent, with cars shipping in autumn. Right-hand drive production has yet to be confirmed.
