Volvo Ocean Race edition models introduced

V40 Cross Country, V60 and XC60 to get new Volvo Ocean Race variants.

Apart from being one of the forerunners in automotive safety, Swedish carmaker Volvo has another trick up its sleeve, and that's yacht racing. Called Volvo Ocean Race, the Volvo-owned offshore yacht racing series is ready to hit its 12th edition in October later this year. To bring the two together, i.e. cars and yacht racing, Volvo has decided to offer 'Volvo Ocean Race' editions of three of its popular products: the V40 Cross Country, V60, and XC60.

The additions on the new trim level include new exterior colour options, 'Portunus' alloy wheels, special edition emblems and model-specific features like chrome-laden window frames, roof rails, chrome inserts and DRL (daytime running lights), etc.

On the inside, there's the exclusive Volvo Ocean Race leather upholstery, leather steering wheel, rear centre armrest with storage and new floor mats among other things. The V60 and XC60 get a digital instrument cluster as well.

Anything else?
The Volvo Ocean Race editions will be displayed during Volvo Cork Week 2014 between July 5 and 11 at the Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven, County Cork.

Volvo Car Ireland MD, Adrian Yeates said, "As in previous years, we will have Volvo Ocean Race variants for a number of our carlines. The aim of the Ocean race variants is to serve as a tool to promote Volvo's involvement in sailing and in particular the Volvo Ocean Race before the race starts this year. They show Volvo's investment and long term commitment for the boat race event. While the event is on, it will create awareness and interest for the Volvo Ocean Race Editions and bring the spirit of the race to the road!"

Prices for the Volvo Ocean Race editions start at €30,895 for the V40 Cross Country, €37,645 for the V60, and €43,995 for the XC60.
