Zagato design created for one lucky collector

Unique Lamborghini revealed at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d’Este.

When you're lucky enough to have a healthy collection of Lamborghinis, the only sensible thing to do is to have your own unique one created. That's what well-known collector, Albert Spiess, did and commissioned none other than legendary Italian coach-building house Zagato, which is celebrating its 95th anniversary, to do so. Based on a Gallardo, this one-off creation is called the Lamborghini 5-95 by Zagato and it made its public debut at this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como in Italy.

Under the Zagato body is a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4, which is powered by a mid-mounted 5.2-litre V10 engine that produces 570hp and is capable of a 0-100km/h time of just 3.4 seconds. Although none of the original Gallardo body panels remain, it isn't thought that any mechanical upgrades were carried out. The car's interior remains almost identical to the standard Gallardo's, with colours and trims being colour-coded to match the new bodywork.

The front-end takes on a much more rounded appearance in comparison to the standard Gallardo's angular look, while the headlights are reminiscent of the older Murcielago's. Below the windscreen is an additional spoiler, while reduced side air intakes are aided by a roof-mounted air scoop that nestles just behind the signature double bubble Zagato roof.

Commenting at the car's unveiling, Andrea Zagato said "We have chosen the Gallardo because it is the most sensational project in Lamborghini's history. An extraordinary car, perfect in engineering terms, that has brought the image of 'the Bull' from a 'cottage industry' to a worldwide major industrial reality. The Gallardo production figures exceeded the whole Lamborghini production since its foundation."

Anything else?
It's not known either how long the project took to complete, or how much the final cost was, but it would appear that Spiess doesn't plan on parting company with the car anytime soon. He went on to say "I always appreciated the ability of Zagato to create timeless lines with a forceful visual impact. I believe that a sensual design inspired by nature, together with the best technology, strike a perfect balance that is possible to achieve only in Italy - the 5-95 will be a fundamental piece of my collection."
