Subaru to take on Isle Of Man in the new WRX STI

Rally ace Mark Higgins to drive WRX STI to break his previous record.

Subaru is ready to set a new lap time around the Isle of Man TT course in the 2015 WRX STI (US-spec). The current record holder, Brit rally star Mark Higgins, set the lap time of 19 minutes 56.7 seconds in 2011, driving the previous generation WRX STI.

Three years later he's going to drive the new WRX STI around the 60.7-kilometre mountain circuit with the sole target of setting a new record. There will be three timed runs between May 31 and June 4, with the roads closed.

Higgins commented: "Setting the record was totally exhilarating and one of the highlights of my career - Bray Hill certainly added to the thrill! As a Manxman, I love the TT Races and I have a huge amount of respect for the TT riders and what they do. It will be a real honour to attempt a new fastest car lap."

Anything else?
While Subaru will be using the US-spec car for the event, the new WRX STI goes on sale this month in the UK so should be available to Irish buyers on special order. The car to be used for the runs has everything stock except the springs and dampers. Also, a roll-cage, race harness and fire suppression system will be added.

During the last run, Mark Higgins' quick reflexes saved what could have been a 240km/h disaster at Bray Hill.

Subaru of America is announced as the partner for this year's event as well.
