Kia recalls 1,126 Sportage models in Ireland

Faulty seatbelt pre-tensioner will be replaced free of charge by Kia in latest recall.

Another day, another recall story. This time it is Kia in the news voluntarily recalling 1,126 examples of the Sportage in Ireland to replace a batch of faulty seatbelt pre-tensioners.

The affected vehicles were manufactured at Kia's plant in Slovakia between 7 October 2011 and 21 November 2012 and the fault was discovered by Kia during regular field monitoring.

In worst case scenarios the pre-tensioner on the driver's seatbelt may not hold the occupant in place due to a faulty piston, but Kia Ireland points out that there have been no reported incidents relating to the Sportage.

Owners of the affected cars will be contacted directly by Kia Motors Ireland via post and their cars inspected at their nearest Kia dealership. Depending on the corrective action required, the estimated time to repair a vehicle can range from approximately one to two hours.

Anything else?
While Kia will be in touch with owners there will understandably be those who do not want to wait by the post box for a letter. If you have any questions you can contact Kia Motors Ireland customer assistance at 01 460 1288.
