World's oldest car to appear at Dublin car show

The 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen set to appear at Malahide Show.

Fans of classic and vintage cars will be in for a real treat on 18 May. Over 100 cars will be on display in the Malahide Classic and Vintage Car Show in north Dublin, portraying the evolution of the car over time.

One of the stars of the show will be a fully-working exact replica of the world's first motor car, the Benz Patent Motorwagen from 1886. The vehicle is currently owned by Motor Distributors Limited, concessionaires for Mercedes-Benz in Ireland. This specific car was engineered by apprentices at the Mercedes-Benz headquarters in Stuttgart to mark the centenary of the motorcar.

Also making an appearance at the show will be a Benz Velo Comfortable, the very first motorcar imported into Ireland by Dr Colohan, then owner of the Grand Hotel, the location of the show.

Anything else?
The show is being organised by Malahide Lions Club and will take place at the Grand Hotel in Malahide village on Sunday, 18 May. Entrance to the event will cost €5 per adult or €10 for a family ticket, with all proceeds going to St. Francis Hospice in Raheny and other charitable causes.
