Skoda apprentices build one-off Citigo cabrio

Two-seat Skoda CitiJet drop-top to premiere at Wörthersee.

A team of 16 young apprentices at Skoda's Vocational School were given the opportunity to work on a very cool project with the Czech firm's design department. The project, which began back in November 2013, saw the aspiring designers getting free reign in relation to what they could create - the result is the CitiJet.

Based on a Citigo platform, the two-seat convertible retains the proportions and familiar face, but almost everything else about the car has been changed. Although there are still some final touches to be made before the car is officially unveiled at the annual Wörthersee GTI fan meet at the end of May, it has been revealed that the car will feature a hand-made rear spoiler plus 16-inch alloy wheels with a blue finish that are designed to complement a striking blue and white metallic paint colour scheme. Despite what the two tailpipes may suggest, under the bonnet is the familiar 75hp 1.0-litre MPI engine.

Anything else?
The annual Wörthersee GTI event takes place from 28 to 31 May and this year will mark its 33rd anniversary. It is now one of the largest organised meets of not only Volkswagen owners and fans but has expanded to include the majority of other brands within the Volkswagen Group.
