McLaren officially ends 12C production

650S becomes McLaren's core supercar offering as 12C is shelved.

McLaren has confirmed that, following the highly successful launch of the 650S, the 12C will no longer be produced. During the presentation event of the 650S, McLaren said that the 12C would still be offered alongside the new car, but has since changed its mind following press and customer reaction to the 650S. With a global order bank 100 per cent in favour of the 650S, and six months of advance orders for the faster, more intense car, the 12C is no more.

The company was quick to point out that existing 12C customers will benefit from some of the advances offered in the 650S as part of the company's belief in continual development. Already having received various upgrades in specification, 12C owners will be offered a free-of-charge 650S 'Technology Upgrade' that includes the software for the 650S's enhanced Active Aero, which sees the rear airbrake deployed more frequently and activate when cresting hills to aid stability. Also included in the free upgrade are improvements to the functionality and usability of the Android based IRIS infotainment system.

Anything else?
In addition, 12C customers will be able to pay to retro-fit the 650S's rear parking camera and DAB (or SIRIUS for US customers). The changes will be offered from mid-June at the car's next service.
