New Civic puts the R in Grrrr...

Hot Honda hopes to steal hot hatch crown.

It's already been seen in heavily-taped up 'camo' form, and in sketches, but here at last is the full reveal of the new 2015 Honda Civic Type-R. Well, not quite. Actually what you see here is a styling concept for the Civic Type-R, and the styling could well be toned down a little before production. This Geneva show car has been heavily influenced by Honda's World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Civic, so there's a whole lot of wing going on. Indeed, Honda is already describing the car as a 'racing car for the road' so expect some serious performance.

Very serious performance. Honda had originally been talking about putting 280hp through the Civic Type-R's front wheels, but its engineers now admit that the 300hp barrier has already been broken, and the new 2.0-litre turbocharged engine still has some final development to do.

To help corral all that grunt, the big rear wing actually provides downforce and those boxy wheelarches have been distended to accommodate massive 20-inch wheels, which just fit around equally massive brakes.

Astonishingly, with all that power, the engine still comes officially from Honda's Earth Dreams technology line-up, which means that it complies with the strict Euro VI emissions regulations and will be one of the cleanest and most efficient high-performance motors you can buy - according to Honda anyway.

Anything else?
Just across the stand is another high-power Honda, which will go on sale in 2015. It's the hybrid NSX supercar and there's also a European debut for Honda's fuel cell concept car. Hot hatch, mid-engined Ferrari-basher and a zero-emissions hydrogen car? That's all the bases covered, so.
