Three is the magic number for Lexus' GT racer

RC F GT3 to take on Nürburgring 24 hours and other global GT3 series.

Not content with showing off the F Sport version of the new RC coupé, Lexus is also bringing along a racing GT3-spec version of its new two-door to the Geneva Motor Show next week.

The RC F GT3 uses a heavily tweaked version of the road car's 5.0-litre V8 engine that develops 540hp in racing trim. The car's weight has also been trimmed considerably to 1,250kg. If it sounds like it'll be quick, it'll need to be - it'll be going up against Ferrari 458s, Audi R8s, the Mercedes SLS AMG and Porsche 911s in such series as the Blancpain GT3 series, Japanese super GT and, of course, the Nürburgring 24 hours. Moves are also afoot to get the ACO to accept GT3 cars for Le Mans in the near future so the RC could eventually get an outing there too.

Lexus Australia chief executive Sean Hanley said that motorsport is an important component of Lexus' global brand activities.

"Motorsport forms an integral part of our commitment to building Lexus' credentials in the area of vehicle dynamics, while also complementing our focus on design," Mr Hanley said.

"Through initiatives like the RC F GT3 Concept, Lexus will give car enthusiasts and customers the opportunity to experience the excitement of motorsport."

Anything else?
In addition to motorsport activities, Lexus has recently launched other global initiatives to highlight the luxury marque's design focus, including the Lexus Design Award, Lexus Short Films, Beyond by Lexus magazine and Intersect by Lexus brand stores.
