Skoda expands on VisionC concept

Skoda's show star powered by a 1.4-litre gas-petrol hybrid, emitting just 91g/km.

More details on the dramatic Skoda VisionC concept have been released, following an earlier teaser, ahead of its Geneva debut. Classed as a five-door coupé, it previews the look of future products from the Czech company - the front end is something we should be seeing more of in the months ahead.

We know it is based on Volkswagen Group's ubiquitous MQB platform and promises the same blend of design, engineering, space and functionality we've come to expect from Skoda. There's apparently plenty of room for four people and their luggage, despite the rakish roofline, with a large boot and easy loading capability built in.

Mechanicals
The bigger news is that we have also been told what's under the bonnet. It's a compressed natural gas/petrol 'bivalent' 1.4 TSI unit, making 110hp. Using gas alone, it uses 3.4kg of the stuff per 100km - we're not sure exactly what that equates to in ordinary economy terms, but it does mean CO2 output of just 91g/km. It is said that this car meets EU 2020 emissions standards with conventional drivetrain technology.

Anything else?
"We are signalling the next stage in the evolution of Skoda's design language with VisionC, and thus highlighting the dawn of the brand," said Prof. Dr. h.c. Windried Vahland, someone with plenty of titles. "The vehicle demonstrates the company's outstanding design and engineering expertise, and underpins the dynamism and value of one of the world's longest-established automotive companies."
