Mazda Hazumi confirmed for Geneva

New concept car likely to show off look of next-generation Mazda2.

What's the news?

Mazda is lining up two premieres for Geneva - one is of its new small displacement Skyactiv-D diesel engine, which is interesting enough, but the other is a 'subcompact' concept car called the Hazumi.

Hazumi (Mazda renders it in all capitals but we'll refrain from that, thank you) apparently means 'bound' or 'spring up' in Japanese, and while we know little about the show car, we do know that it will showcase the look of Mazda's next generation car in this sector - so it should heavily preview the forthcoming Mazda2, by our reckoning.

The Hazumi and Skyactiv-D 1.5-litre engine will be joined on the stand by a selection of the current range of road cars, two more Skyactiv engines and a commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the MX-5 roadster.

Anything else?

Given that most recent Mazdas have been striking-looking creations that back up their visual appeal with the sort of engineering that places them among the class leaders, we're very much looking forward to finding out more about the HAZUMI. Oh, dammit!
