BMW to boost carbon fibre production

Seeing the success of the i sub-brand, BMW prepares to increase carbon fibre production.

BMW is reportedly preparing to up carbon fibre production at its factory run in conjunction with SGL Carbon SE in the USA. As the i sub-brand has received great response, and since both the i3 and i8 use a lot of the material, BMW has to make it available.

Also, it's being said that BMW is looking to use carbon fibre in cars outside the electric 'i' sub-brand. That means the products from the M division can shed some more kilos, and as a consequence, get better performance and economy.

Anything else?
BMW has already received 11,000 orders globally for the i3. The i8, on the other hand, is already sold out for this year, even before its launch.
