Peugeot to launch new engines at Geneva

Peugeot to bring PureTech petrol, BlueHDi diesel and HYbrid Air to Geneva Motor Show.

Peugeot is going to present three new engine technologies at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March.

First of them is what Peugeot calls 'PureTech' turbocharged petrol technology. It is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that, with the help of turbocharging, is said to offer both decent performance and good economy. Two states of tunes will be available with the engine, with power outputs of 110- and 130hp. Peugeot claims that this engine, when compared to engines of equivalent power, has lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures - by as much as 21 per cent. The other technology to be present at the Peugeot display in Geneva is its BlueHDi advanced diesel engines. The Euro 6 compliant units will soon find their way to vehicles like the 308, 308 SW and 508. Using Selective Catalytic Reduction and a particulate filter, up to 90 per cent of NOx emissions and 99 per cent of the particulates are eliminated. Also, CO2 emissions and fuel economy are apparently optimised. What's probably more interesting than the two mentioned above is Peugeot's HYbrid Air tech. As the name suggests, it is a hybrid powertrain, which uses compressed air in conjunction with a PureTech turbocharged petrol engine. At Geneva, a Peugeot 2008 crossover will be used to demonstrate the technology.

Anything else?
A total of 28 production vehicles and concept cars will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show by Peugeot. Two all-new new cars, the 108 and the 308 SW, will be present. Motorsport lovers will be excited to see Ari Vatanen's Peugeot 405 T16, the very same car with which he set the Pikes Peak hill climb record in 1988.
