New Jeep Cherokee to debut at Geneva

Jeep to bring the new Cherokee to the 84th Geneva Motor Show.

Jeep has announced that the new Cherokee SUV will debut at the 84th Geneva Motor Show. The fourth generation version of the vehicle not only gets a new design but new underpinnings too.

Exterior
The mid-size SUV from Jeep was designed to balance the ruggedness of an out-and-out off-roader with the kind of vehicle that won't look out of place in the urban environment. But being a Jeep, a lot of trademark design cues are retained. The seven-slat grille, for instance, is key to its design. It gets LED daytime running lights and optional Xenon headlamps.

Interior
Jeep calls the interior 'modern, welcoming and comfortable.' However, there are design elements, which, like the exterior, are reminiscent of Jeeps of the past. The second row of seats feature a 60/40 split, while three colour choices for the interior trim will be available too. A 506-Watt sound system, and two multimedia screens are the main highlights of the infotainment, while a seven-inch TFT screen appears to be standard.

Mechanicals
Available with either two- or four-wheel drive, the Cherokee is powered by a new 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine that produces 170hp and 350Nm. It also gets switchable stop-start functionality. A new nine-speed automatic gearbox and a six-speed manual will be the transmission options available.

There are two different 4x4 systems, namely Jeep Active Drive I and Jeep Active Drive II. The former, available on all models, is an automatic system that does everything on its own without needing any intervention from the driver. The second system, Jeep Active Drive II, is more advanced and gets low range too. It will be available only on the Cherokee Limited model.

Anything else?
Laden with safety features, the Jeep Cherokee received a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The vehicle is scheduled to reach dealerships later this year. When it does go on sale, more than 100 exclusive Mopar accessories will be available for it too.
